• 1971 - Born in Pretoria, Transvaal South Africa
• 1983 - Sold the BASIC-based video game code Blastar to the magazine PC and Office Technology for $500
• 1990 - Attended Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario
• 1992 - Transferred to University of Pennsylvania, where he received a B.S. in Physics and B.S. in Economics
• 1995 - Moved to California to begin a PhD in Applied Physics and Material Sciences at Stanford University, but left the program to pursue entrepreneurial aspirations; developed Zip2 with his brother Kimbal.
• 1999 - Zip2 sold for $307 million in cash and $34 in stock options, of which Musk recieved 7% (or $22 million dollars.) Musk used approximately half to start X.com
• 2000 - Musk is ousted from his role as CEO of PayPal
• 2001 - X.com acquires PayPal after merging with Confinity.
• 2002 - eBay acquires PayPal, for which Musk is the company's largest shareholder (11.7%). Musk uses his earnings to launch SpaceX
• 2004 - Musk joins in funding collection for Tesla Motors
• 2008 - Financial crash occurs; Musk assumes leadership of Tesla Motors and the company releases the Tesla Roadster
• 2012 - Musk announces collaberation between Tesla Motors and SolarCity (a company for which he provided intial funding and is a major stockholder)
• 2013 - Musk unveils concept for Hyperloop, a high-speed transportation systems which functions via reduced pressure tubes.
• 2015 - Musk announces creation of OpenAI, a not-for-profit artifical intelligence research company aimed at developing artificial general intelligence in a safe and beneficial way for human, while making AI accessible for public use.
